Simon Communities of Ireland x The RIAI

Booking System and Fundraising Platform for Charity Campaign

The Challenge

Working with the Simon Open Door team, Smashed Crab built a fundraising platform that helped raise over €100,000 for the homeless of Ireland. Simon Open Door is a collaborative effort between the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (The RIAI) and Simon Communities. The annual campaign sees the registered architects of Ireland donate their time to provide the nation’s homeowners with consultations in exchange for charitable donations. Over the last 17 years, the Open Door campaign has raised over €1.3 million to help fight homelessness.

Our Approach

For the last ten years, the campaign has been operated through a clunky, outdated, and largely unsupported booking system.Due to a lack of functionality it was becoming increasingly difficult to manage customer service requests. A new system was required to allow customers and architects to manage bookings themselves.

The Solution

The developed solution allowed both architects and customers to manage their availability and bookings with minimal involvement from RIAI and Simon Community staff. This hands-off approach meant that organisers spent less time providing customer service and more time marketing their campaign. The application also integrated with Mailchimp, and produced reports to help capture further donations.

What the client said:

The platform allowed clients and members to have a seamless experience when signing up, making a booking/inputting hours. We are very satisfied with the work Smashed Crab have done and grateful for the platform they built.
